Overview
The Voicemail-to-Transcription (VM2T) service offered by Networks by Plouffe is designed to simplify the process of managing voicemail messages by providing fast and accurate text transcriptions directly to the user's email.
The service automatically processes voicemail messages received at the dedicated email address vmtotext@allworx-voicemail.com, extracts the audio attachment (in WAV format), and transcribes the content using advanced speech recognition technology (Whisper). Once transcribed, the text is sent back to the original sender via email.
⚠️ Please Note: AT&T has discontinued email-to-text services.
This means AT&T users cannot receive voicemail-to-text messages via SMS.
Alternative notification methods (such as direct email) remain available.
How It Works
- A voicemail is recorded and sent as an email to vmtotext@allworx-voicemail.com with a WAV file attachment.
- The VM2T service processes the email and extracts the WAV file.
- The audio is transcribed using Whisper, an AI-based transcription model.
- A reply is sent to the original sender's email address (using the Reply-To header) containing the transcribed text.

Limitations and Potential Issues
- 1. AT&T Restriction – AT&T has removed the ability to receive transcriptions via email-to-text. Direct email delivery is recommended for AT&T users.
- 2. Audio Quality Issues – Poor audio quality, background noise, or low volume may lead to inaccurate transcriptions.
- 3. File Format Compatibility – The service is designed to process WAV files only. Other formats will be ignored.
- 4. Language and Accent Challenges – Mixed languages or heavy accents may reduce accuracy.
- 5. Large File Size or Long Messages – Very large WAV files may take longer to process or fail if they exceed size limits.
- 6. Email Handling Issues – Incorrect Reply-To headers may result in delivery failures.
- 7. Whisper Model Limitations – Whisper may struggle with technical jargon or overlapping speech.
